Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the amount
of oxygen your blood can carry. An increase in blood oxygen
temporarily restores normal levels of blood gases and tissue
function to promote healing and fight infection. Hyperbaric
oxygen therapy is used to treat several conditions.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen
in a pressurized setting. The normal air we breathe only
contains about 22% oxygen. While people generally get enough
oxygen from the air, there are health benefits to breathing
air with a higher concentration of oxygen. Using pressure,
either in a tube allows the lungs to take in more oxygen
than they would at normal pressure. The pressure may be
as much as 1.3 times higher than normal atmospheric pressure
during hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Although oxygen therapy might be unknown for some of us,
the concept is certainly not new. Documentation shows that
breathing hyperbaric oxygen as therapy has been around
for nearly 350 years.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be used with a number of
conditions, primarily to promote general healing. Oxygen
is normally transported through the bloodstream to all
parts of the body. Oxygen promotes healing by stimulating
the release of substances like growth factors and stem
cells. The body also uses oxygen to fight infections bacteria
and Viruses. More oxygen traveling through the body increases
these processes, which promotes faster healing.
We conclude that the administration of HBO can provide
many clinical benefits in the treatment of tumours, including
management of highly malignant gliomas. Applied immediately
before irradiation, it is safe and well tolerated by
patients, causing rare and limited side effects. The
results obtained with a combination of HBO/radiotherapy
protocol proved to be especially favourable compared
to radiation treatment alone. HBO can also increase the
cytostatic effect of certain drugs, which may render
standard chemotherapy more effective. The currently available
data support the legitimacy of conducting further research
on the use of HBO in the treatment of malignancies.Hyperbaric

Your Blood Oxygen Level
A healthy, normal blood oxygen level remains around 95
percent to 100 percent. You can monitor your blood oxygen
level at home with
a pulse oximeter. Values below 90 percent
are considered low.
"When your body doesn’t receive enough oxygen
and you have a low blood oxygen level, hypoxemia or hypoxia,
cyanosis and other conditions may occur. Because COPD and
other chronic lung diseases restrict or obstruct normal
breathing, low blood oxygen levels can be a serious issue.
Hypoxemia or hypoxia occurs when your body has insufficient
oxygen and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms of hypoxia
can include severe shortness of breath, wheezing, constant
coughing, a choking feeling and a bluish discoloration
of the skin (cyanosis)."
Chronic hypoxia can lead to cerebral hypoxia or brain
hypoxia, which means that your brain cells could become
seriously damaged within minutes."
HBOT is a way to
hypothetically turn up the volume on oxygen absorption
by increasing the atmospheric pressure.

Hyperbaric Oxygen for Cancer Patients
Pressurized oxygen treatment has been used for centuries.
As researchers gain a greater understanding of cancers,
like the usefulness and risks of hyperbaric oxygen have
been debated. There is some evidence suggesting pressurized
oxygen therapy could inhibit cancer growth. For example,
some studies show combining oxygen therapy with chemotherapy
can slow cancer. When there is inadequate oxygen there
is some tumor resistance to chemotherapy drugs. Supplemental
oxygen may decrease this resistance, making chemotherapy
more effective.[2] Research results have been mixed; however,
there is also evidence that hyperbaric oxygen can make
radiation therapy more effective as well.[3] In these situations,
hyperbaric oxygen is considered a radiosensitizing or chemosensitizing
agent.
Often cancer patients are injured by conventional treatment.
Radiation therapy, for example, can cause serious injury.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is known to help heal these injuries.
Surgery can also cause wounds that may lead to infection
or can be difficult to heal. Oxygen treatment can improve
both of these issues.

HBOT allows for oxygen to be dissolved in the blood,
body fluids, cerebral spinal fluid (the fluid that surrounds
the brain and spinal column), bone tissue, and lymph nodes.
Oxygen-rich fluids in the body can then travel to areas
where blood circulation is blocked.
HBOT is said to help the body by assisting with the following
functions:
helping the immune cells of the body to kill bacteria
reducing inflammation
allowing for collateral circulation (growth of new blood vessels to provide
extra oxygen to affected areas of the body)
“Role of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Severe
Head Injury in Children”
"Journal of Pediatric Neuroscience. 2012 Jan-April
7(1) 4-8
Conclusion: In children with traumatic brain injury,
the addition of HBOT significantly improved outcome
and quality of life and reduced risk of complications.
Patients receiving HBOT were significantly better than
the control group with decreased hospital stay, better
Glasgow Coma Scale and drastic reduction in disability."

and why it’s good for our children”
Medicinal Veritas, 2 647. 2005.
Conclusion: “Children on the autistic spectrum
experience improvement in a wide range of their symptoms
with mHBOT treatments, including increased language ability,
better socialisation, less aggression, improved bowel
function and better cognition.

Science has proven that the body needs oxygen
to heal itself. Many injuries and illnesses involve the
lack of oxygen-rich blood, which is then unable to travel
to affected areas of the body.
For example, diabetes can result in poor and slowed circulation,
making it more difficult for oxygen-rich red blood cells
to reach wounded areas of the skin. This results in injuries
that are very slow to heal or injuries that do not heal
at all.
“Hyperbaric Oxygen and Thrombolysis in
Myocardial Infarction”
The American Heart Journal, September 1998.
Conclusion: “Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment
(HBOT) in combination with thrombolysis has been
demonstrated to salvage myocardium in acute myocardial
infarction (AMI). Treatment with HBOT appears
to be a feasible and safe treatment for AMI and
may result in an attenuated rise in creatine
phosphokinase and a more rapid resolution of
pain.” |
HBOT has been used to treat many different medical conditions
and injuries that benefit from having an increased level
of oxygen in the tissues. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can
be utilized as a stand-alone treatment or a procedure that
can boost the action of medicine, such as antibiotics.
mHBOT means “mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy,” which
is different from high-pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy
because of the level of oxygen delivered to the bloodstream
in a pressurized environment. |

"Is
hyperbaric therapy safe for Senior Citizens?
Yes. Hyperbaric therapy can be very beneficial in your golden years,
even contributing to reducing the signs of aging. New research indicates
hyperbaric oxygenation slows Apoptosis or cell death, that ages us."
Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber can offer a Pure Oxygen
Treatment to people, called Hyperbaric Oxgeyn Therapy.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment
which the patient is entirely enclosed in a pressure
chamber breathing pure oxygen (O2) at greater than
one atmosphere pressure. In our atmosphere, the pressure
is 1ATA, so Air contains nearly 21% oxygen and approximately
78% nitrogen. Under normal circumstances, oxygen
is transported throughout the body only by red blood
cells.
But with HBOT, oxygen is dissolved into all of
the blood and in the cerebral spinal fluids of
body, the plasma, the central nervous system fluids,
the lymph, and the bone and can be carried to areas
where circulation is diminished or blocked. In
this way, extra oxygen can reach all of the damaged
tissues and the body can support its own healing
process. The increased oxygen greatly enhances
the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria,
reduces swelling and allows new blood vessels to
grow more rapidly into the affected areas. It is
a simple, non-invasive and painless treatment.
