Abstract: Objective: To explore the effects of low-intensity
laser nasal irradiation (650nm/5mW) on dyslipedemia. Methods: Thirty
cases with dyslipidemia were randomized into two groups: drug group
and laser group. Simvastatin was taken by the drug group and the
laser group received the low-intensity laser nasal radiation therapy.
The serum lipid was measured before and after the treatment.
Results: Based on the food control, TC level of the laser
group dropped 5.8% (P=0.031), and TG dropped 8.8%. And at the same
time the ALT level of the laser group dropped 23.1% (P=0.022), which
meant that the laser therapy could protect the liver function.
Low-intensity laser irradiation has various bio-effect, present
study showed Intra-vascular Low lever Laser Irradiation (ILLLI) has
obvious therapeutic effects on ischemic cardiac and cerebral vascular
diseases[1,2]. Base and clinical research indicate that
ILLLI can improve hemorrheological properties, improve blood circulation,
especially microcirculation; regulate immunity; enhance enzyme activity,
detoxify; this eliminate free radical, restrain formation thrombus,
enhance activity of enzyme Na+-K+-ATP in red
cell membrane, raise level of SOD (this enzyme can eliminate free
radical), which helps eliminate free radical, anti-old, improve blood
hyperkinesias; it can also increase red cell metabolic ability, improve
hemorrheological properties, decrease blood viscosity; regulate fibro-lysis
and other bio-effects[3-5].
Low-intensity laser nasal irradiation is developed on the basis
of ILLLI. Because nasal epidermis is very thin, and many blood vessels
in the mucous membrane, blood flows very slowly, Low-intensity Laser
Nasal Irradiation with Nose Head Cover has a large irradiation area
with good penetration of 650nm laser, which guarantee laser contact
blood components completely. Low-intensity Laser Nasal Irradiation
Therapy is of no cut, no pain and no medicine side effect and suitable
for home use. On the basis of mentioned above, this study of low
intensity laser nasal irradiation therapy on dyslipidemia. Take 30
patients with primary dyslipidemia as two groups, treat them by low
intensity laser nasal irradiation and common medicine, and observe
the effects.
1. Clinical Data
1.1 Patients Selection
Patients is selected according to ¡°Prevention and Treatment Suggestion
on Dyslipidemia¡± by
China cardiac vascular Journal committee. The following patients
is excluded: age of lower than 18 or older than 70; Pregnant and
nursing women; acute cardiac infarction, severe injury in cerebrovascular
accident or unsteady diseases after operation; dyslipedemia and hypercholesterolemia
caused by Nephrotic Syndrome, hypothyroid hypergasia, acute or chronic
liver and gall diseases diabetes; dyslipidemia caused by medicine;
patients who is in medicine period of heparin, thyroid hormone medicine
and other medicine which affect blood fat metabolism; patients with
primary diseases and psychosis of liver and kidney and Hematopoietic
system.
1.2 Patients Group
Divide 30 patients with primary dyslipidemia into two groups:
Drug and laser. Average age: Laser Group 57.8 ¡À 9.8, Drug Group
55.0 ¡À 7.2. Treating the common data of the two groups statistically,
there was no significance difference (P>0.05). So it has comparability.
2. Treatment Method
Low-fat diet were used in two groups.
2.1 Drug Group
Vastatin drug¡ªShu jiangzhi is used in this study. Dosage: once
each day, 20mg/time, take at night, continuously used for 19d.
2.2 Laser Group
Low intensity laser nasal irradiation. Laser wavelength is 650nm
and power is 5mW. Irradiate for 45 mins each time. Once a day, 7d
a course, and after that 5d interval, two courses totally 19d. Low
intensity laser treatment instrument
2.3 Observe Item
Blood drawing examine is conducted on 1st d and 20th d.
examine items includes: TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, ALT, AST etc).
2.4 Statistics Method
SPSS10.0 software and Analysis Of Variance or T Test is adopted;
Analysis of covariance is used in difference between blood fat level
and liver function before and after treatment. Matched T test is
adopted to compare difference between blood fat level and liver function
before and after treatment.
3. Result
3.1 Comparison of Blood Fat Level
Baseline of laser group and blood fat level of after treatment
is as Table 1, blood fat level is obviously improved after 2 course
laser treatment.

3.2 Comparison of Therapeutic Effects
Analysis of covariance is used to compare therapeutic effect difference
between two groups, the result show that blood fat level of the both
groups all improved, but drug group improved more significantly,
on 20th day TC, HDL-C, LDL-C improvement rate has significant
difference with laser group. Table 2 shows blood fat decreasing rate
compared with baseline after treatment.

3.3 Comparison of ALT
level

(P=0.022), but no
Obvious change in drug group, see Table 3.

3.4 Comparison and Analysis of Safety of the Two Groups
Analysis of covariance is used, after adjustment of age, gender,
smoke, drink and waistline and other probable factors, after laser
treatment, ALT decrease obviously, and much better than drug group
(P= 0.070), and change of AST of the both group is similar. Table

4. Discussion
Dyslipidemia will lead to coronary heart diseases, cerebrovascular
accident and other cardiac & cerebral vascular diseases.
Tatin drug can obviously reduce fat, but accompanied with side effect
as liver function lesion and Rhabdomyolysis etc.
The result of this study shows: on the basis of diet adjustment,
low intensity laser nasal irradiation decrease serum TC level by
5.8% (P=0.031), TG decrease by 8.8%; low intensity laser nasal irradiation
therapy can effectively regulate blood fat and ALT level decrease
23.1% (P=0.022), which has protective function to liver. This study
only observe two courses (Totally 19 days) effects, the result indicates
that long blood fat reduction therapeutic effects of laser nasal
irradiation worth further observation.
Compared with Shu Jiangzhi, the effect of blood fat regulation
by low intensity laser nasal irradiation is relatively weaker, but
on consideration of safety, for the patients who get no effect by
diet control or abnormal liver function, low intensity laser treatment
has a great applicative value. Meanwhile, this study also has enlightened
course arrangement and treatment features for low intensity laser
nasal irradiation.
