Fighting Infection with Colloidal Silver

Does Colloidal Silver Kill Off Friendly Digestive Bacteria?

"I understand colloidal silver kills viruses and one-celled bacteria. Will taking it daily interfere with the digestive process in any way? Does it kill the good digestive bacteria? What would be your personal dosage experience as to a regular consumption of colloidal silver?"

Generally speaking, for immune system maintenance and nutritional supplementation purposes, I personally take about an ounce of colloidal silver a day -- i.e., a small shot glass full each and every morning.

And occasionally, if a flu virus is going around, or if I’ve been exposed to someone sick, or if I eat out one night pick up an inconvenient case of food poisoning, or if I’m just feeling a little bit under the weather for some reason, I might increase my daily dosage significantly, to up to four ounces or more a day, which I generally take in increments throughout the day.

I’m not a doctor, so I’m not prescribing what you should do. But this is what I’ve been doing quite successfully for some 13 years now.

Colloidal Silver is a powerful, non-toxic, natural antibiotic that is effective against bacteria, germs, virus and fungi. It is able to protect the human body from various infections and stimulate new cell growth. It can be used orally or topically on the skin, through the rectum, atomized or nebulized into the lungs, nose and eyes without any irritation or side effects!

Digestive Aid

Taking colloidal silver in any amount has never interfered with my digestion, but instead, seems to aid my digestion.

In fact, when I’m taking colloidal silver daily I tend to have better and more frequent bowel movements. (Which is nice, because honestly, I hate prune juice!)

New Research: NanoSilver Prevents Blood Clots

Varanasi, India -- Scientists in India report the discovery of a potential alternative to aspirin and other anti-platelet agents used to prevent blood clots.

The researchers said they've found the use of silver nanoparticles might prevent blood clots in coronary artery disease, heart attack and stroke patients.

The scientists said low levels of nanosilver particles injected into mice reduced the ability of platelets to clump together by as much as 40 percent with no apparent harmful side effects.

Debabrata Dash and colleagues at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, said patients urgently need new anti-thrombotic agents because traditionally prescribed medications often cause dangerous bleeding.

The nanoparticles "hold immense potential to be promoted as an antiplatelet agent," the researchers said.

The news was reported by the American Chemical Society which said laboratory experiments indicate small amounts of the nanosilver injected intravenously reduce the ability of platelets to clump together - which forms the basis of life-threatening clots - by as much as 40 percent. It also said the procedure shows no apparent harmful side effects.More

Beneficial Microorganisms

When I'm only taking a single ounce of colloidal silver daily, which is most of the time, I don't bother supplementing with beneficial bacteria on a regular basis. Just an occasional basis. (See more below.)

Why? Because the average human body has about seven pounds of beneficial microorganisms in the colon and spread throughout the large and small intestines.

You're simply not going to kill off seven pounds of beneficial bacteria with an ounce of colloidal silver. And since the friendly little critters are very prolific at reproducing (they don’t call them “friendly” microorganisms for nothing!), any die-off is probably replaced through reproduction with new “friendlies” before the day is over, particularly if you eat a good, balanced diet.

Does Colloidal silver harm human cells

Dr. Robert O. Becker, M.D. conducted groundbreaking research at Syracuse Medical University using tiny, electrically generated, sub-microscopic silver particles. And in human trials he found absolutely no harm to cells or tissues.

This, even though in many cases he generated the tiny nano-sized silver particles directly into the tissue and bone of his patients using a low-voltage electrical device and pure silver mesh, or silver electrodes that were surgically implanted into his patients' infected wound sites. Not only did the silver nano-particles cure the infections (including many antibiotic-resistant cases of osteomyelitis), they also triggered bone healing and tissue regeneration -- hardly a harmful result.

Becker would later write, "“What we have done was rediscover the fact that silver kills bacteria, a fact which had actually been known for centuries...All of the organisms we tested were sensitive to the electrically generated silver ion, including some that were resistant to all known antibiotics...In no case were any undesirable side effects of the silver treatment apparent.”

Even the latest medical research demonstrates no harm to cells from nanosilver. In fact, research published in the June 2009 issue of the prestigious medical journal ACS Nano demonstrates that nanosilver in the bloodstream acts to prevent blood clotting, and that the presence of silver in the bloodstream causes no apparent harm to cells.

Thrombotic disorders have emerged as serious threat to society. As anticoagulant and thrombolytic therapies are usually associated with serious bleeding complications, the focus has now shifted to regulating and maintaining platelets in an inactive state. In the present study we show that nanosilver has an innate antiplatelet property and effectively prevents integrin-mediated platelet responses, both in vivo and in vitro, in a concentration-dependent manner. Ultrastructural studies show that nanosilver accumulates within platelet granules and reduces interplatelet proximity. Our findings further suggest that these nanoparticles do not confer any lytic effect on platelets and thus hold potential to be promoted as antiplatelet/antithrombotic agents after careful evaluation of toxic effects.

Larger Dosages of Colloidal Silver

But if I start taking larger dosages of colloidal silver for any reason (larger meaning more than an ounce a day), then I go ahead and supplement daily with a good beneficial bacteria supplement, to make sure that any die-off is replaced with fresh “friendlies.”

I’ll take the beneficial microbes every day that I’m taking larger dosages of colloidal silver. And I’ll continue to take the beneficial microbes for about a week or so after I’ve stopped taking the higher dosages of colloidal silver.

Usually, I take the colloidal silver in the morning before breakfast, and the beneficial microbial supplement in the evening, before dinner. If I’ve been taking colloidal silver in incremental dosages throughout the day, I’ll take my beneficial microbes just before bedtime.

Does Colloidal Silver Cause Harm to Kidneys
This myth, is being cited in a variety of news articles on the internet, as well as by environmental groups like Friends of the Earth that are working to force the EPA to regulate colloidal silver products as "pesticides." Both of these myths are unfounded. As Dr. Gary Connett wrote in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine in 2007, "Case reports have described possible nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity, but these have not been substantiated by studies in animal models." (See J R Soc Med 2008: 101:

How Long Will Homemade Colloidal Silver Last Before It Begins to Lose Its Potency?

Tens of thousands of people throughout North America and around the world now make their own home-made colloidal silver using colloidal silver generators.

They do so for many reasons, but chiefly because you can make an entire quart of fresh, pure colloidal silver for about 36 cents or less with a high-quality colloidal silver generator, rather than paying a whopping $20 or $30 for a comparatively tiny, four-ounce bottle of store bought colloidal silver.

By far the #1 question I get from users of colloidal silver generators is this: How long will a batch of homemade colloidal silver last before it begins to lose its potency?

Rule of Thumb

If you know what sign to look for, colloidal silver will tell you when it’s beginning to lose potency.

The general rule of thumb is to watch for precipitation of silver particles in your storage container.

Precipitation” means the silver particles are beginning to fall out of suspension in the solution. The resulting residue will begin to visibly coat the sides or bottom of your storage container. That is the sure sign that your batch of homemade colloidal silver (or even store bought colloidal silver, for that matter) is beginning to lose its potency.

All you have to do is examine your storage container to see whether or not a light silver-gray residue is beginning to form on the sides or bottom of the container.

If you’re using a dark glass storage container, such as the amber glass bottles many people like to store their homemade colloidal silver in (see photo above), you may have to hold the bottle up to a bright light, or shine a flashlight through it, and carefully examine the sides and bottom.

If you see a coating or discoloration beginning to form on the glass sides or bottom, then you know your silver particles are beginning to precipitate, the batch is losing its potency, and it’s time to make a fresh batch.

Otherwise, if there is no visible residue forming in your storage container, your homemade colloidal silver is likely as fresh and potent as the day you made it.

The Dirty Little Secret about Grocery Shopping Carts

Grocery store shopping cart handles have more germs than public restrooms, making them one of the worst public places for germs, according to researchers and you touch them probably two or three times a week, but so do thousands of others.

How germy could shopping carts really be? Very, according to researchers at the University of Arizona who tested all kinds of public surfaces. They found that shopping carts were loaded with more saliva, bacteria and even fecal matter than escalators, public telephones, and even public bathrooms. The only surfaces that had more germs were playground equipment and bus rails.

"Every kid in America teethes on shopping cart handles," said Dr. Chuck Gerba at the University of Arizona. "They don't have the best sanitary habits. … I mean, you're putting your broccoli where their butt was."

A recent Inside Edition investigation found disturbing evidence that supermarket shopping carts can expose shoppers of all ages to harmful bacteria and germs! Dr. Kelly Reynolds, a microbiologist with the University of Arizona, tells Inside Edition all shopping carts are sources of contamination. "You need to be aware that there could be harmful bacteria from raw meats and produce, and harmful viruses from people's hands that have been sick, present on shopping cart handles."

90% of stores carry shopping carts and stores admit to not cleaning them!

Inside Edition tested 30 carts at nine supermarkets to find what germs were lurking. Inside Edition’s lab found several types of bacteria and fungus that could cause disease, especially in people with fragile immune systems.

The most serious bacteria found was enteroccocus facaelis – indicating the presence of fecal matter. Dr. Reynolds told Inside Edition she wasn't surprised by the results. She had tested shopping carts as part of a university study on germs.

"Our study and your study seem to indicate that shopping carts are frequently contaminated." On some carts, Dr. Reynolds found bodily fluids like blood, mucus and saliva. She says the shopping carts she tested were dirtier than public bathrooms. "The fact is, bathrooms are frequently cleaned and disinfected, shopping carts are not," Dr. Reynolds told Inside Edition.

While some supermarkets offer wipes to disinfect hot spots, many areas of the country are not. “Another option is to spring for a baby shopping seat cover.”

What’s the “Safest” Daily Dosage of Colloidal Silver?

From what we can tell after speaking with literally thousands of colloidal silver users over the past ten years, most of them drink anywhere from a tablespoon to an ounce of 10 ppm colloidal silver each morning as a daily mineral supplement.

And most of them tell us they are taking it for the specific purposes of helping build immunity, or preventing or curing infection. Nevertheless, the FDA allows its use solely as a mineral supplement, and disallows any medical or healing claims.

The mutation of healthy cells into cancer cells occur continuously, even in healthy bodies. But such cancer cells are destroyed by the body's natural immune system at a rate about the same as they occur, and when the body condition is stable, there is nothing manifest that a healthy person would experience as cancer. Some types of Cancer are reported to be caused by a virus. Like with any virus, upon invading a body tissue cell it will take over the cells reproductive chemical factory thereby forcing the cell to replicate the virus instead, the cell will revert to the primitive state thus enabling the Colloidal Silver to be effective and kill the cell. A higher concentration of Colloidal Silver means more immediate contact with any virus or other pathogen.

To date, over the past ten years, every single one of the users we have personally spoken with have told us they have suffered no apparent harm whatsoever from taking these levels. And of course, most of them report dramatic health benefits.

Others users tell us they only use colloidal silver when they are sick, generally in much larger amounts than the daily users, albeit only for short periods of time, such as a few days to a week. In such cases people have been known to take as many as four to 12 ounces a day, or sometimes even more, but rarely for more than a week. Users say a good, high quality colloidal silver solution of about 5-10 ppm, taken as stated above, will usually clear up a mild to moderate infection in only a few days, while more serious infections may take a little longer.

One thing for sure: if you are taking colloidal silver for any kind of infection or health condition in such large dosages, and you are not feeling better in a few days or so, it is probably not working. And it is not worth the risk of continuing to take more without proper health care and oversight from a legitimate licensed health care professional. (Our view is that you should always consult with a licensed health care practitioner for serious health conditions. Never self-medicate.)

What Daily Intake Levels Does the Government Consider Safe?

While the FDA will not allow health claims for natural substances like colloidal silver without “drug” approval, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the other hand, has issued guidelines for “safe” amounts of silver ingestion for the human body.
And while thousands of people have reported taking dosage levels ranging anywhere from a tablespoon of colloidal silver to an ounce a day, or even more in case of infectious illness or disease, it is nevertheless important to note here that such levels could be well in excess of the levels the EPA has deemed to be a "safe" daily amount of silver intake from all known sources, such as from water, food, air and yes, even mineral supplementation.

Indeed, according the EPA, the daily reference dose for oral consumption of colloidal silver is approximately .005mg/kg-day. What this means in medical bureaucrat-speak is that an individual who weighs 70 kilograms (160 pounds) could safely ingest .350 milligrams of silver per day during the course of an average 70-year lifetime without fear of excessive silver buildup. How they came up with that number is unknown to this writer, and probably irrelevant to this report. But you can read about it on the EPA web site at:

It is also important to understand that the EPA?s oral Reference Dose for silver does not mean you will necessarily be harmed in any way by taking larger amounts. As stated above, many people have reported taking larger daily amounts than the EPA's daily recommended "safe" dose, for weeks, months or even years on end, with no apparent ill effects whatsoever.
Nor does it mean that taking lower amounts than the oral Reference Dose is guaranteed to be safe. Just as there are no "safe" levels of aflotoxin for a person who is allergic to the fungus commonly found on peanuts, there are no "safe" amounts of silver, or any other nutritional supplement for that matter, if you are allergic or particularly sensitive to it for some reason, or have an underlying health condition such as severe liver or kidney damage that might be contraindicated for its usage.

So while one person might take ten times the EPA "safe" recommended daily dosage of colloidal silver for weeks or even months on end, and never experience a single adverse effect from it, a more sensitive person might experience adverse effects from taking only a small fraction of the EPA's recommended daily "safe" levels, perhaps even after a single dose! And this is true in regards to the ingestion of any vitamin, mineral, food or liquid substance on the face of the earth, not just silver!

The bottom line on safety is that you just can't pin a single dosage level on everyone and say "safe." Safety is relative. And the level of risk in life is dependent upon many unknowns. That said, today colloidal silver is one of the single-most popular nutritional supplements in the world. It is used by an estimated 10 million people across North America, and probably many millions more around the world. No one has ever died from using it. And to our knowledge, there are to date no specific adverse events related to colloidal silver reported to the FDA, other than a comparatively small handful of cases of argyria which were all caused by excessive daily use of the supplement over long periods of time.

Steve Barwick

Looking back at all the trouble and roadblocks the FDA and the pharmaceuticals companies have caused with regard to Colloidal Silver Products, perhaps it has worked out for the best. Even the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)... they list no known toxicity level for Colloidal Silver, yet they have come up with a "safe" dose. It's important that these entities keep the fear and confusion alive because of the big money at stake.

We now have the ability to make our own Colloidal Silver at home;

Getting a blood volume ppm level:
The problem is one of absorption efficiency. Simply drinking CS only puts around 20% of the silver into the blood stream. That means that if we wanted to achieve a blood silver concentration of 5ppm, we would have to drink a liter containing 5ppm x 5 x 5 = 125ppm.

It is very puzzling to me that we can fearlessly drink tap water with loads of chlorine, fluoride, iron, copper, and other metals and minerals we know nothing about and haven't measured, but a little silver worries us! (Eddy Kasper)

Fortunately, there is a way to get colloidal silver into the bloodstream and the body's cells and tissues quickly and easily

Delivering colloidal silver directly into the lungs, and thus into the lung tissues and bloodstream, is a highly effective way to use colloidal silver. By bypassing the digestive system, some believe that a greater amount of colloidal silver can be delivered into the body. Furthermore, by using a nebulizer, one can be relatively certain than only the smallest particles ( and ions ) reach the lungs.

Nebulizer & silver: I've been kind of nervous to try this, but I had a bad flu that caused a lung infection. I was coughing up lots of green. I have my own colloidal silver generator, but for this I felt it was important to get the purest and best quality I could get. I've come to believe that this is sovereign silver.

The oral silver was not working, though I continued to take it orally (the sovereign silver as well as my home made silver). I've read that you need to get the silver to make contact with the area of infection. I had bought a nebulizer at a medical supply shop. I put a couple of droppers full of the sovereign silver in the nebulizer, and did 3 minutes of deep diaphram breathing. I had read that shallow breathing doesn't get it down there.

To do this I pushed all the air out till I couldn't get anymore out. I inhaled drawing the air down, imagining it fill up my belly first, then the top portion of my lungs. Shallow breathing seemed to make my lungs irritated, but I felt fine with the deep breathing.

I did this every hour for maybe 3-4 hours, then a couple of more times that evening. The next day I was doing somewhat better. I did this for a couple more days, and the infection is gone - Thank God!!! My doctor just took a listen to my lungs and said they are clear. I continued a day past the last signs of infection, tapering down as the infection tapered down.

Quite honestly, I don't know if there are any long term issues. However I feel I did better than my hubby who went on zithromax at the first sign of infection. I got sick after him by almost a week, and my lungs were better before his. Source

What is a nebulizer?
A nebulizer changes liquid (medicine) into fine droplets (in aerosol or mist form) that are inhaled through a mouthpiece or mask. Nebulizers can be used to deliver bronchodilator (airway-opening) medicines such as albuterol (Ventolin, Proventil or Airet) or ipratropium bromide (Atrovent). ( Stop reading if you ever used any of those. ) Nebulizers are also an excellent delivery method for introducing Colloidal Silver directly into the nose and lungs. A nebulizer may be used instead of a spray bottle or nasal inhaler. It is powered by a compressed air machine and plugs into an electrical outlet.

The amount of colloidal silver to use on a daily dose basis is undetermined. Tentatively, one full dose is 1/2 to 1 fluid ounce. However, this dose in some cases is spread throughout the day, or might even last a few days, depending on the need. In other cases, as in lung infections which are not severe yet have become chronic, a dosage philosophy might vary. The following examples illustrate different ideas:

Two minutes of nebulizer use every fifteen minutes for four hours.
Five minutes of nebulizer use every hour.
One complete dose of colloidal silver once to four times daily.
One Half dose of colloidal silver once to four times daily.
Always err on the side of caution! More on the Usage of
